SKIING IN FINNISH LAPLAND
Slashing into couloir after sidestepping and few long breaths. All the photos by Jaakko Posti.
Skiing in faraway places deep in the wilderness is special. No people and no control means that you're totally responsible for your own actions and for me that feels like freedom.
Few years ago we had a chance to get along with some fishermen who were heading up to Käsivarsi wilderness area to a place called Urtasvaara. The place stands at 40 kilometers from the nearest road and besides being remote you really feel that you're in the middle of the great white wild. Snowmobile ride into location took around two hours and while the other guys started to fish we headed up to the nearby mountain to check out the lines it offered.
There are some wild ski lines all over the area and this was no exception. We found some mini lines and despite we had to deal with somewhat unstable snowpack we had a great day out.
